Dynamic syncopated percussion that is irresistibly groovey, a hypnotic bassline, and acid swells that punctuate the warm organ chords with moments of intensity...the EP opens with Power'd Up, a tune that is both gritty and slick.
The EP takes a darker turn with Those Days, a track well suited for rattling the rusty windows of old warehouses and shaking up the dust in dingy basements. Spooky synths, a thumping kick and distorted vocal samples...maybe those really were the days.
In the third track we take a break from the four to the floor with a distinctly dry, cutty and zappy electro bop. If you prefer your electro raw and free of the frills, then this one is for you, with its stripped-back, no-bullshit approach. It's like a trusty ol' sturdy piece of machinery that never gives in.
If the previous track could be described as robust and structured, then this John Beltran-esque ambient mix is a surprisingly fluid and dynamic reinterpretation. What was previously rigid in its form has transformed into something formless and non-linear. The mechanical sounds, reliable in their machinic predictability, now become weightless and evolving, whilst still sticking to a pared-back approach.
This 4 track EP from Saunter is defined by its DIY attitude, rough yet slick feel, and tunnel vision focus for simplicity.
